Growing

Growing Gelato: flowering time, yield and breeder specs

Gelato flowers in about 8–9 weeks according to Leafly, 8–10 weeks according to Weedmaps and most seed sellers, and 65–70 days for Barney’s Farm’s version. Expect a short-to-medium plant with dense, often purple flowers; sources disagree sharply on how hard it is to grow.1,2,3,4

What the plant is like

Expect compact, dense buds that often finish dark purple with orange pistils under a heavy coat of resin: Leafly and SeedFinder describe dark purple hues illuminated by fiery orange hairs, GreenState says classic Gelato is deep purple with some kelly green, and High Times described #33’s chunky, sticky purple buds.1,8,9,10 Nirvana describes a medium plant with short internodal spacing and golf-ball-sized buds; FastBuds describes a stable, indica-influenced structure with tight internodes.5,7

What to watch for

Difficulty is the disputed part. Leafly rates Gelato hard to grow with a medium yield, Crop King says moderate, ILGM intermediate, Nirvana easy and FastBuds forgiving, a spread that partly reflects different seed lines carrying the same name.1,4,5,6,7,11 Weedmaps notes that purple coloration is possible rather than guaranteed.2

Seeds and the law in the US

Under the amended federal definition of hemp, viable seeds from cannabis plants above 0.3% total THC, including THCA, are not hemp.12 Congress delayed that exclusion, with most of the new definition, from Nov 12 to Dec 11, 2026; only the exclusion of products with cannabinoids the plant cannot produce naturally starts on Nov 12.13 Home cultivation rules are set by each state. This site does not sell seeds.
