How published THC figures compare
Strain databases publish a single figure or a range: Leafly lists 21%, AllBud 20% and Weedmaps 18–26%.2,3,4 Seed sellers advertise more, from 20% (ILGM) and 18–22% (Nirvana) to 26% (FastBuds), 26–28% (Barney’s Farm) and 27% (Crop King).5,6,7,8,9 In state lab results, 90% of Gelato flower tested below 27.55%, so the higher seed-catalog figures describe the top of the range rather than typical flower.1 The highest single result in our data was 36.88%; GreenState notes that reports reach 36%.1,10
California results ran higher than the rest: 24.34% median across 56 tests, against 21.58% overall.1 Our strict name matching treats a bare number as a lot code, so products labelled Gelato 33 (531 tests) and Gelato 41 (215) sit inside the 1,792 tests on this site; Gelato 45 is counted as its own strain and left out.1

Limits of this data
- Coverage is uneven. Michigan (644), Maryland (469), Nevada (332), Washington (256) supply most of the 1,792 tests, which date from 2016 to 2024; Oregon and Rhode Island results carry no product names and could not be matched.
- Some labs report higher THC than others, so we publish medians and middle ranges rather than maxima. No single lab accounts for more than 16.7% of these tests (46 labs in total).
- Terpene medians come from 371 tests with individual terpene values, 331 of them from Nevada labs. Maryland reports only total terpenes (461 tests), and Washington and Michigan report none.
- We matched names strictly: crosses and near-miss names (for example "Gelato Cake", 1,331 results) are excluded and counted, and duplicate certificates are removed. Bare numbers count as lot codes, so Gelato 33 and Gelato 41 labels are inside the sample; Gelato 45 is not.
