Gelato lab report

For Gelato, the sharpest split is lab-to-lab: medians ranged from 18.33% to 31.09% among qualifying labs, and even Michigan labs differed by 4.76 points.1

Key findings

  1. Lab medians for Gelato spanned 12.76 points, from 18.33% at Lab I in Michigan to 31.09% at Lab S in Nevada.1
  2. Gelato's 20% THC line was met in 66% of flower tests; the 25% and 30% lines were met in 23% and 3.3%.1
  3. Only two of five single outside THC figures sat above Gelato's lab median, while 27% from Crop King was met by 11% of tests.1,2
  4. The terpene race leaned to β-caryophyllene: it topped 65% of Gelato terpene tests, ahead of β-myrcene at 18%.1
  5. Gelato's median THC placed 22nd of 52; at the 25% cutoff, its share was 23%.1
  6. On Weedmaps, Gelato appeared across 21 of 24 markets and placed 6th among 58 tracked strains.3

What are the odds Gelato reaches 25% THC?

Gelato reached the 25% total THC line in 23% of flower tests (about 2 in 10); the 20% cutoff was much more common at 66%, while 30% stayed rare at 3.3%.1

Maryland was the higher-odds state: 76% of its 469 tests reached the 20% THC line, and its median was 22.24%; Nevada posted 55% of 332 with a 21.18% median.1 State gaps blend plant material with market-specific growers, labs and testing rules.

Do seed sellers overstate Gelato THC?

Yes, seed-seller figures run high for Gelato relative to database figures: two of five single outside THC figures were above the 21.58% median, and tests got to the peak single claim, Crop King's 27%, only 11% of the time (about 1 in 9).1,2

AllBud's 20% single figure is closer to the common lab result: 66% of tests reached that line (about 7 in 10).1,4 Sellers set a tougher bar than databases in this check; tests reached the median seller figure 16% of the time and the median database figure 61%.1

Published ranges were uneven: 18–26% from Weedmaps covered 66% of tests, while 26–28% from Barney’s Farm covered 7.5%.1,5,6 These outside values are not a substitute for a batch certificate.

Does Gelato have a clear lead terpene?

Yes, Gelato has a lead terpene, though the lead is not overwhelming: β-caryophyllene was top in 240 of 371 tests (65%), versus 18% for β-myrcene and 15% for limonene.1

The outside terpene claim matches the labs: Leafly names caryophyllene, and β-caryophyllene led 65% of tests.1,9 Because Nevada accounts for 331 of 371 terpene tests, this split mostly reflects flower tested there.1

How close is Gelato to Gushers in terpenes?

Gelato is very close to Gushers by terpene profile, with a 96% overlap and β-caryophyllene leading; the next closest are Sherbet at 93% with β-caryophyllene leading and OG Kush at 93% with β-caryophyllene leading, while Durban Poison is lowest among 36 compared strains at 41%, led by terpinolene.1

Method: for each strain, we take median results for eight terpenes, recast them as portions of that eight-terpene total, then score how much of the profiles overlaps; identical mixes score 100. The comparison requires at least 30 tests with individual terpene values.1 It is chemistry only, not a prediction of how Gelato feels.

How does Gelato compare with other strains for THC?

Among qualifying strains, Gelato lands in the middle third for THC among compared strains, ranking 22nd of 52 by median total THC at 21.58%; the neighboring medians are Sour Diesel at 21.68% and Candyland at 20.99%.1

For the 25% cutoff, its 23% share puts Gelato at 20th.1 Its middle-half span is 18.91%–24.70%, or 5.79 points, ranking 34th narrowest of 52 qualifying strains, which is about average consistency.1

How wide is Gelato's THC spread by lab?

On flower drawn from differing growers and state programs, Gelato's by-lab THC spread is 12.76 points: after filtering to labs with at least 20 tests, median THC ran from 18.33% at Lab I in Michigan to 31.09% at Lab S in Nevada across 19 labs.1

Michigan did not erase the spread: its eight labs meeting the 20-test cutoff covered 18.33%–23.09%, a difference of 4.76 points.1

Different growers send different flower to different labs, so these gaps do not prove that a lab reads high; they show the combined cultivation-and-testing spread behind label THC. Lab names are masked here; Lab A is the highest-volume lab in this dataset, and the download gives the real names.

Do terpene totals rise with THC in Gelato?

Yes, terpene totals rise with THC in Gelato: across 830 paired tests, results at 24.89% THC or above had a 2.41% median, while results at 20.10% or below had 1.44%, a difference of 0.97 points.1

By state, the result repeated in two of two states meeting the 30-pair minimum: Maryland up and Nevada up; Maryland's low-THC third had median total terpenes of 1.70%, and its high-THC third had 2.59%.1 Total terpenes are aroma compounds by weight and do not indicate effects.

Is Gelato stronger in Maryland over time?

Yes in Maryland, but across all states Gelato was nearly flat: the median was 20.88% in 2018 on 86 tests and 21.41% in 2024 on 30, a change of +0.53 points.1

Within Maryland, the picture is steeper: median THC for 2018 was 20.72%; for 2023, it was 22.14%, a change of +1.42 points.1 The all-state line therefore also reflects which states contributed tests.

Which longer labels contain Gelato?

The longer-label bucket is led by “Gelato Cake”, “Green Gelato - GEL” and “Watermelon Gelato TC”; under the exact Gelato label, flower dominated the lab feed at 75% of 2,570 results, with concentrates (12%), shake and trim (5.9%) and pre-rolls (4.0%) next.1 Only flower feeds our strain calculations.

Longer labels are a bigger bucket than exact Gelato: 6,286 results contain the word, making up 71% of name-containing results, with “Gelato Cake” (1,331), “Green Gelato - GEL” (213) and “Watermelon Gelato TC” (178) at the top.1 We leave those out under our name-matching method because extra words, cross markers or CBD versions can mean different material.

What this data cannot tell you

  • The dataset is flower carrying the Gelato name across 10 states, 2016–2024; it cannot settle any individual jar, where the batch certificate of analysis is the right record.1
  • These are chemical measurements only, not a prediction of your personal experience with Gelato.

Check the numbers

The downloadable lab file contains the 1,792 tests used for every lab calculation; Weedmaps menus come from a separate feed, and the same lab records feed our potency and terpene view.1 The cross-strain comparisons use summaries for 58 strains produced under the same rules.1
